Parent /Teacher Interviews are an opportunity for parents to find out about the progress of their child. The information that a teachers provides parents should give an indication of how the child is progressing through the school year.

Interviews tend to be short - around 15 min - So how do you prepare for the interview?

Do you alone go along to the parent / teacher interview or do you have child in question attend the interview?

Should the child attend the interview with the parent?

Do you prepare notes or questions?

Do you look at previous report cards?

Are you generally happy with how a school conducts parent / teacher interviews?

Do you go to parent / teacher interviews only or do you try to keep regular contact with the teachers throughout the year?

Are you happy with teachers and or the school as a whole with the instruction & support that is given to your child?

It doesn't matter whether it's physical or psychological - bullying hurts.
(Ref - http://education.qld.gov.au/pu.....ying.html)

Bullying is the deliberate action by one person to intimidate another with words, actions or behaviour. Unfortunately, bullying is commonly found wherever children come together in groups - and as a result, the schoolyard is the number one hot-spot for bullying.

The main ways bullying occurs are:

Teasing

Exclusion

Physcial

Harrassment

(Ref - http://www.kidspot.com.au/Pres.....ticle.htm)

Who's affected by bullying?
The short answer is everyone. The victim, the perpetrator and the witness are affected by the act of bullying.
What might be the signs of a child being bullied?
What would you do if your child told you they were being bullied at school?
What should you do if your child tells you they wittnessed another being bullied?
Does the witness have the obligation to put a stop to the bullying by telling an adult?
What could be the consequences for the witness?

For most parents finding the right school is as simple as choosing the school that is close to home.

Some parents chose a school according to size of the school or the class size and some parents will look at school fees or if a public, private or independant school or a school that teaches different philisophies for example Steiner or Montesorri.

Some parents have a child with a disability. What sort of school is best for a special needs child.

Were or how can I find a school with educational programs for students with intellectual disability, autism, hearing, visual and physical disabilities or for complex medical and / or physical needs.

Welcome to the Lounge.

Getting a quailty education is one of the most important activities that any person will undertake in life. The Talking Education Forum is a place to talk about issues that are important to you and your child. I invite people to discuss issues and personal experiences. What is it that you like about your school? Do you like the uniforms? What is on the menu at your canteen. Are you able to attract volunteers into the school community? Do you know about all the opportunities available to your child to achieve desired or best outcomes? Do we have enough computers in our school? Do you believe the Government is doing enough to improve the outcomes of every child? What is important to you?

It is important to remember that the experience of the student is often what one makes of it. If you are a dedicated parent willing to go the extra mile to make sure your child finds school enriching and engaging, the dreams can become a reality.
